Throw away your ductulator and get into the 21st century! Rapid HVAC Duct Sizing takes the trouble out of sizing duct for ventilation, heating and air conditioning. It is a quick, simple, easy to use tool, allowing you to whip out your phone and give an immediate answer. You don't need to be an engineer to use it - Rapid HVAC Duct Sizing comes with industry default values preloaded so all you need to do is plug in the air flow and spin the wheel to calculate the duct height. Easy.

It is customisable, with both SI (metric) and imperial units supported, plus the target velocity and pressure drop are able to be configured to suit your requirements. The app supports sizing of oval and circular HVAC ductwork, as well as the space efficient rectangular duct type most often used in modern construction. Sizing of flexible HVAC ductwork is also possible..

For its engineering calculations, Rapid HVAC Duct Sizing uses a hybrid of the equal friction method and constant velocity methods, selecting for an equal friction but with a set maximum velocity to avoid acoustic issues. It calculates the friction factor based on the preferred methods of Trane, Carrier and ASHRAE - by iteratively solving the Colebrook equation for the friction factor based on air flow. Rapid HVAC Duct Sizing then applies this friction factor to determine the pressure drop. Through the use of hydraulic diameters, oval and circular duct as well as rectangular duct sizing can be done. The velocity is simply calculated based on the air flow and sizing of the duct. The app compares the velocity and pressure drops calculated to determine the optimal size meeting the friction pressure drop as well as maximum velocity requirements.

Despite the robust engineering calculations being performed, this tool is suitable for use by anyone. Mechanical consulting engineers use it to save time sizing, ventilation, heating and cooling ducts, especially when estimating a new construction project. It is great for heating and air conditioning installers checking the sizing of their ventilation ducts. Mechanical contractors can make changes to duct sizing on site without needing to call in a consulting engineer. Architects find it useful for ceiling space sizing, without needing to call in the building services specialists.
